Also, if you are not here at school and want some tutorials on how to conduct research, Questia provides easy-to-follow instruction on how to conduct research and write papers.

Websites to get you thinking about ideas for your independent research project:

Vernier:
Great resource to go to in order to see what types of probes and sensors are available for making measurements: OES has many of the probes and sensors listed on the web site, and may be able to get one if we don't currently have it. Check out the experiments page as well. Good idea generator, though the expectations are that you design and execute an experiment or engineering design project of your own design.

Science Buddies:
Great site to work with in order to develop an interest into a topic and potentially a testable question. The site ultimately leads to projects, though our expectation is that you design your own project.

Additionally, research can be a tricky task. What is it? Why do we do it? Here are some helpful links (step by step) to get you started with your library research as you begin to explore your ideas:

  1. Brainstorming (Concept Mapping)
  2. (Re)searching
  3. Website Evaluation (CRAAP Test)
  4. Note-taking (all along the way, really)
  5. Citations
